Ministering To Men Along The Elizabeth River

Upper Room Devotional

Dear Upper Room friend,

We need your help!  One of our goals for The Upper Room magazine is to reflect the diversity of God’s family in the meditations we publish.  This includes diversity of writers -- in theology, occupation, country of origin, and subject matter.  We also try to publish men and women writers in approximately equal numbers. That’s why I am writing to you. We urgently need meditations written by men.  Though we don’t know why this is so, we receive about four times as many meditations written by women as by men, and we have a good supply of writing by women to choose from. But our files of work by men are almost empty.

Would you be interested in sharing your faith through writing a meditation (devotional)?  I am inviting you to help us because you have shown a genuine interest in The Upper Room as a devotional resource.  Please consider this invitation seriously.  Each meditation we receive is carefully read and considered for possible use in a future issue of the magazine.  Meditations usually range from 250-300 words in length.

Think about the insights you’ve had recently in your personal Bible study or the issues God has been dealing with you about, and consider how you could share with our readers from this.  Most meditations are written in first person from a personal experience or perspective.  This form can be a compelling witness to readers.  Always remember that no matter how powerful or moving an experience may be to share with your readers, a good meditation must offer some life application, usually in the conclusion or last paragraph.  (Think about “What difference could/would this make in someone’s life?”)

You can see/print our writers guidelines on our website.  Simply go to

To submit a meditation/devotional in response to this request, simply paste your meditation text into a reply (to this message) or attach a file in a reply to this message.  In any case, be sure the words “Upper Room Men Invitation” appears in the subject line of your email.  We need you and other writers like you to keep the magazine strong.  We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Grace and peace,
